Well here’s another interesting item you don’t get to see every day – the SAM Medical Pelvic Sling. Like their junctional tourniquet I reviewed, it’s probably not something every ambulance needs, but if you have a need for something that stabilizes open book pelvic fractures, this is definitely worth a look.
They’ve got a blessedly short training video here; it’s not rocket surgery which is pleasant, and it uses the same style buckle as the junctional tourniquet and the SAM XT limb tourniquet.
I got my dummy buddy to agree to let me put it on him, and it was nice and simple, although the buckle requires more force than I expected to get it to positively “click” in place.
Overall if this is the kind of tool you need it’s worth a look, it’s well made and simple to use – I’m just not sure it’s necessary in a world where ambulances almost always have sheets:
For my money, I’d put other stuff on board first, but that’s one medic’s opinion.
