Taschenlampe (pockets pt 1)

This little light of mine...

Call it low-hanging fruit, call it laziness if you wish. I’ll call it my first foray in to reviews of products that I use regularly. My … EDC, if you insist on calling it that (I have no particular issue with the term, but rather with some of its devotees… perhaps a topic for a different post).

This little light of mine...
This little light of mine…

Behold! The Streamlight Microstream (R)(TM)(ETC, pleasedon’tsueme) USB that more often than not rides in my pocket. I know, I know, the folks at r/flashlight would have my head. Don’t tell them, please. For my sake.

[If you want to see a light r/flashlight would be proud of, read this review]

Pros:

  • Lightweight
  • Small and unobtrusive
  • Micro USB rechargeable (nearly ubiquitous at the moment)
  • Reasonably bright for my needs

Cons

  • Proprietary battery (le gasp!)
  • Not as bright as some other, only slightly larger, lights
  • Manufactured by the Evil Empire (apparently)
  • Bluish-white tint (ie, not neutral, high CRI, etc, for the flashlight dorks in the audience)

So, why do I like this light so much? Honestly, it’s that adage about the small gun you’re carrying being worth more than the service pistol in the drawer at home. I like how this light carries, I like that I can charge it almost anywhere, and so I actually put it in my pocket every day!

Bottom line:

Honestly, anyone who doesn’t currently carry a flashlight of some sort regularly could benefit from this light.

If you’d rather not have a proprietary battery or would prefer to use non-rechargeable batteries, I’d suggest the Streamlight Microstream (AAA) or the Olight i3T.

That’s all for now, folks!
