Be honest… you’d H.I.T. that. (pockets pt. 12)

Continuing my tradition of terrible titles…

This is the DPX Gear H.I.T. (Handle Inversion Tool) – no, I don’t think the name is very clever either, and honestly I probably wouldn’t have bought this for what it runs retail; I actually got this in a trade as an extra bonus.

DPX H.I.T. Knife

The knife itself isn’t bad – it holds an edge nicely, is quite sharp, and had a decent form factor. Its clever little pivoting handle/sheath design is neat, and stays where you put it, which is nice – it requires a little bit of a pull along the long axis of the knife to disengage from the blade before it will pivot out of the way (you can see the notch just behind the blade in the photo above).

Here it is stowed safely. I’ve never had it disengage by accident, and the carabiner is pretty reliable too, which is nice. The overall build quality is very high, and the little wrench cutout is neat, I guess.

My biggest issue with this knife isn’t any quality complaint, but more that it seems like a solution in search of a problem. If you really need a knife that lives on a carabiner for reasons unknown to me, then this is a great choice. I just… don’t.

I really want to like it and sing its praises, I just have no particular use case that this knife fits in to – it’s nothing against the product, and I’m glad to see creative designs on the market, I just personally don’t have a specific need that this fills.

Until next time.
