Guardian Angel – useful device, or just another gadget?

You may have seen their marketing, particularly if you’re in public safety and on social media – they’ve been quite generous with the ads, at least in my feed.

The Guardian Angel device is meant to sit on your shoulder or somewhere on your person or your gear – it’s a hybrid work light and emergency flasher, meant to provide motorists and others awareness of the individuals working on an emergency scene; think of it as an adjunct to a safety vest.

They were kind enough to loan me some samples to evaluate, which I did in detail in the video below – overall though, I’m not certain I would buy one for my own use.

That being said, I work for a fire department that prefers to block most or all of a lane with a piece of apparatus (engine or ladder) when working on a roadway. Were I a police officer or a rural paramedic, I may have a different opinion of this item.

For my purposes, this product doesn’t solve any needs that I have without creating other challenges (recharging batteries, another device to attach before getting out, etc) that, in my mind, outweigh the benefits.

Again – my perspective is my own, and I think if you need something that does what this device does, you’d be very happy with this product. It seems very well made, with an easy user interface and does exactly what it says on the tin.

Until next time – stay safe out there.
